One of the top sophomore prospects on the East Coast is Abby Ota, versatile athlete with legitimate track speed who is an offensive terror and has shown she comes up clutch in the biggest situations.
It’s hard to say what was more impressive this past summer: her hitting over .600 both at the club and high school levels against strong competition or not striking out in bracket play (club) and playoff action (high school).
Below you’ll read about her amazing numbers and accomplishments which make her one to watch as we unveil the Extra Elite 100 for the 2021 class starting January 1.

PLAYING BIG ON THE BIGGEST STAGES
Over the last two years at PGF Premier Nationals, Abby has batted .750 with an .833 OBP and no strikeouts in bracket play. In all bracket games this past summer (2018)–including Colorado IDT, DeMarini Invitational, PGF Nationals–Abby hit .615 with no strikeouts. She also batted .636 in her high school conference playoff and state tournament games this past spring, again with zero K’s.
SUCCESS AT THE CLUB & HIGH SCHOOL LEVELS
For the Summer 2017 season, Abby was the only first-year 14U player on Kevin O’Donnell’s Jersey Intensity KOD National team, which took 5th at Boulder IDT. She started at the bottom of the roster in the fall of 2016, but earned a starting spot during the summer. At PGF Premier Nationals she batted .545 with a .643 on base percentage. Counting only national-level events – D9 Sun Classic, Team NJ Showcase, Colorado IDT, PGF Nationals – Abby hit .462 with a .506 on base percentage for the season. Also, she was 2-for-2 at the Select 30 Camp scrimmage games versus two pitchers who were named 1st and 2nd team Select 30 All-Americans.
This past year (Spring 2018), playing her first high school season for defending Connecticut state champion Joel Barlow High School, Abby took over as the starting shortstop and lead-off hitter as a freshman. She batted .580 with a .630 OBP and led the state’s Class L (large schools) with 47 hits and 40 runs in just 23 games, with a .906 fielding percentage. She was selected Barlow Offensive Player of the Year and Connecticut Southwest 1st Team
PLAYING UP
In 2018, although she was still age-eligible to play 14U, the Jersey Intensity coaches moved Abby to the 16U KOD National team, where she won the starting lead-off spot over a current 2020 ACC commit and started in center field. The team finished Top 10 at Colorado IDT. Counting only national-level events – D9 Sun Classic, Colorado IDT, DeMarini Invitational, PGF Premier Nationals – Abby batted .509 with a .582 OBP and scored 25 runs.
