
When Virginia Tech won the Tempe Regional last season, they called on Keely Rochard to start the first of the Super Regional. All she did was go out and beat the PAC-12 champion UCLA Bruins. Game 2 of the series? That was Rochard’s, too. So was Game 3. If you’re sensing a pattern, it’s because Rochard is one of the last remaining classic softball “workhorse” pitchers that shoulders a heavy load for her team and still wins.
The Hokies went deeper into the postseason last season than they have since their 2008 Women’s College World Series run. The squad looked different back then, but that team also had a true ace in the circle. Somebody by the name of Angela Tincher.
