As part of our in-depth preseason college softball coverage, today we dive into the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference – the MAAC – and forecast what could be in store for the league during the 2023 season.
1. Conference Breakdown
Canisius won both the conference’s regular-season and tournament championships last year, winning 80% of their league games and running the table with an undefeated showing in the conference tournament. The Golden Griffins represented the league in the Gainesville Regional of the NCAA tournament.
The MAAC did experience some realignment change this summer. Monmouth departed the league to join the CAA, but the conference avoided a net-loss by adding Mount St. Mary’s out of the Northeast Conference.
There are currently eleven softball programs that compete in the MAAC. Those programs include Canisius, Fairfield, Iona, Manhattan, Marist, Mount St. Mary’s, Niagara, Quinnipiac, Rider, Saint Peter’s, and Siena.
