As part of our in-depth preseason college softball coverage, today we dive into the Mid-American Conference – the MAC – and forecast what could be in store for the league during the 2023 season.
1. Conference Breakdown
Miami Ohio won both the regular-season and MAC tournament titles in 2022, finishing with a healthy lead atop the league standings and running the table in the conference tournament.
Eleven teams make up the MAC softball offering – those programs include Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Central Michigan, Kent State, Miami Ohio, Northern Illinois, Ohio, Toledo, and Western Michigan.
Though the league was reportedly toying with the possibility of expansion via conference realignment, MAC leadership ultimately decided to stand firm with their current league makeup. The MAC are one of just three FBS leagues to not be affected by the mass realignment.
