As part of our in-depth preseason college softball coverage, today we dive into the Southwestern Athletic Conference – the SWAC – and forecast what could be in store for the league during the 2023 season.
1. Conference Breakdown
Bethune-Cookman and Texas Southern finished atop the SWAC East and West divisions, respectively, last season. Texas Southern stood atop the conference with a 21-3 record during the regular season. Prairie View A&M, the 2-seed in the West division, put together a run in the conference tournament to emerge as SWAC champions and represent the league in the NCAA tournament.
Twelve softball programs compete in the SWAC; the conference membership includes Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Alcorn State, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Bethune-Cookman, Florida A&M, Grambling State, Jackson State, Mississippi Valley State, Prairie View A&M, Southern, and Texas Southern.
