Maggie Hicks was named the Wendy’s Arkansas Softball Player of the Year this week.

We’re constantly adding top players to our Extra Inning Softball Signing/Verbal Database and one of those of note who signed with Arkansas, which has always been her dream school, is Maggie Hicks, a versatile right-handed infielder/outfielder who just finished a stellar career at Sheridan High in East End, Arkansas.

Maggi was named this week as the 2017-2018 Wendy’s Softball Player of the Year by the Arkansas Activities Association after she led the Lady Jackets to a 30-3 record and three straight state titles including a convincing 17-2 win over Marion in the Class 6A championship last Saturday in which she went 4-for-4 with four runs scored and an RBI.

For the season she had batted .510 with 32 RBI and 14 steals following a strong junior season when Maggie hit .436 with 11 homers and 24 RBI to be named the 2017 MaxPreps State Player of the Year.

When announced as the Wendy’s Player of the Year, her head coach at Sheridan, Tamara Strawn, commented: Maggie makes plays that are only seen on ESPN. She is faster than a hiccup and will do whatever it takes for her team to be successful. Maggie is well deserving of this award and any other award she has received. She has sure helped pave a rock solid foundation in our Lady Jackets softball program.”

Both of her parents, Byron and Kristi Hicks, attend Arkansas where the athlete says she has wanted “to play since I was a little girl.”

Off the field, Hicks—who plays club ball with the Arkansas Athletics—carries a 3.89 GPA, served on the Student Council was crowned Homecoming Queen and Prom Queen her senior year.
