UPDATE:Â Notre Dame officially announced the hiring on Friday afternoon.
ORIGINAL STORY:
Notre Dame is expected to hire Amanda Rivera Eberhart as an assistant coach, sources confirmed to Extra Inning Softball.
Eberhart spent the 2022 season as the head coach at Valparaiso, leading the Beacons to a 14-33 overall record and a 5-22 showing in Missouri Valley conference play.
Prior to her tenure leading Valpo, Eberhart spent three years as the head coach at Omaha, including guiding that program to the Summit League tournament championship game for the first time in program history. Her resume also includes two years on staff at Purdue, a stint as head coach at IUPUI, two stints on staff at Northwestern, and a year as an assistant coach at NC State.
During her playing career at Illinois-Chicago, Eberhart earned Horizon League Player of the Year honors in 2004 and was a four-time all-conference and all-region honoree. She holds the UIC career home run record and was inducted into the program’s Hall of Fame in 2013.
The addition of Eberhart completes Notre Dame’s first coaching staff move in nearly two decades; longtime assistant Lizzy Ristano departed the staff in early July after seventeen years with the program.
