Carol Hutchins‘ retirement as Michigan’s head coach marked an end of an era in college softball and in the state of Michigan. Hutchins spent nearly four decades as the Wolverines’ head coach and retired as the winningest head coach in NCAA softball history.
That late-summer development catapulted the Big 10 to the top of the list for notable coaching changes, although it did make the Wolverines the tenth of fourteen teams in the B1G to endure a staff change this summer. That’s volume that is virtually unheard of in any top-level league. Both Michigan and Michigan State saw turnover at the head coaching position, while eight additional schools went through an update to their full-time staffs.
