Auburn pitcher KK Dismukes is retiring from softball for medical reasons.
Dismukes, who completed her true junior year with the 2022 season, announced the news on social media earlier this week.
“17 years of softball… After a lot of thought and undergoing quite a few injuries, my body has decided that it is time for me to medically retire,” Dismukes wrote on Instagram. “This sport has given me everything: memories, friendships, life lessons, and so much more. I cannot thank the people (and you know who you are) enough that have been there for me THROUGH IT ALL. It’s been a tough ride and I will forever appreciate y’all for being by my side through this crazy journey. I am so very thankful for my family and every single sacrifice they have made to allow me to get to where I am today. Auburn, thank you for giving me the opportunity play at this level for an incredible university. I am forever grateful. I have been blessed beyond measure and will forever express my gratitude to this place. #34”
After prematurely ending her true freshman season due to injury in 2020, Dismukes made 48 appearances through the 2021 and 2022 seasons. In ’21, she notched a 1.51 ERA and a .247 opponent’s batting average while posting a 3-2 record in the circle. Through the 2022 campaign, she posted a 3.01 ERA, tied a career high with 54 strikeouts, and recorded a career-best six wins from the circle.
An Alabama native, Dismukes was a five-time all-state selection during her prep career and was the Alabama Gatorade Player of the Year in 2019.
