Blog: Florida Commit Sam Roe on Being Adopted Into A Loving Family

The four Roe kids a few years ago: Samuel, J, Samantha and Sandra.

Samantha (“Sam”) Roe was rated by Extra Inning Softball as one of the Top 5 players in the Extra Elite 100 for the Class of 2022 and the catcher/infielder who is committed to Florida has a special story to tell involving her family.

A standout with the Georgia Impact – Newland club team, she was adopted as was her big brother Samuel and couldn’t be closer to her parents, Steven and Bobbi, and her other siblings “J” and Sandra Kay.

In her second blog for Extra Inning Softball, Sam—who is home schooled—talks about the love and closeness of her family and how their support helps her on and off the softball field…

And on the field she is certainly tearing it up for her Rocky Bayou Christian School located in Niceville, Florida as she’s batting .720 with 10 doubles and 17 RBI in her first seven games.

Here’s a closer look at the family dynamics of the future Gator…

The other day I went online out of curiosity to see if I could find any kids in need of a home.

What I found made me sad.

I found that there are over a 100,000 kids out there in need of a loving, caring home.

Adopting is the perfect chance to give another person a chance. I don’t know about you, but when I get older I’m definitely going to adopt. This is one of the things other than softball that is dear to my heart.

Softball is an amazing sport and is so much fun to play, but to get better it requires a lot of time and dedication from you as a player as well as your family. I’ve been blessed with an amazing family that has done so much to help me achieve my dreams.

The amount of time spent training and traveling can take away from my other siblings but they don’t complain—they’re amazing! I’m lucky to have them and can’t imagine life without them.

My parents run the household—well, at least when I’m not there! Just kidding.

My oldest brother no longer lives at home, his name is Steven J Roe Jr., but everyone calls him J. He is 25 years old and the musician of the family. J attends Jacksonville University and is a Composition Major.

When I was younger I was determined to follow in my big brother’s footsteps and become a singer/guitar player—he even gave me guitar lessons. We both quickly realized that sports were my calling!

J recently married Elizabeth who is an Environmental Scientist and fits perfectly into our family.

Sandra Kay is 22 and she’s the best big sister a girl could ask for (and is almost as cool as I am. Almost!). My sister has a beautiful voice, but decided to seek a degree in Music Business from Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida and at the age of 19 graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree.

My brother Samuel Jay is 11 months older than me—he’s 15 and can build some amazing things with Legos; one of my favorites is a huge Ferris Wheel he built. Samuel is 6-foot-4 and wears a size 17 shoe! Yes, that was typed correctly, a size 17 shoe. He’s one big guy which can present a problem because we love picking on one another. He’s bigger, but I’m faster! With four dogs in the house, it can get quite loud when we pick on each other.

Sam and very big brother Samuel (6-foot-4 with a size 17 shoe!).

You’ve probably already guessed from the pictures that Samuel and I are adopted. Being adopted is incredible. I have amazing grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins too.

Aside from the fact that we get some strange glances during family outings because none of us look alike, my life is the same as any other teenager. My siblings and I never really think about the fact that Samuel and I were adopted; we are very close and know that a family is a family.

God has been beyond wonderful to our family and I am so thankful for everything He does for us… I hope that I make HIM proud.

— Sam Roe
