The 2018 PGF All-Americans were announced today and all but one–who will be overseas with her college team—will be on display Friday, July 27th in the PGF High School All-American Game to be nationally televised live on ESPNU at 7:30 pm.
The talent, as in previous years, is the best collection of graduated high school seniors you’ll find on one field and includes the top 10 prospects in the recently released Extra Inning Softball Elite 100 for the 2018 class including the #1 overall ranked player, Megan Faraimo, the UCLA-bound pitcher.
The 40 All-American Game participants will be broken down into East/West teams of 20 on each side and the overall talent is so deep and impressive that of those who will compete in the PGF All-American Game, 36 of the 40 were in the Elite 100 (and those were ranked 101-115).
It all starts in the circle and the collect of pitchers is once again impressive.
Along with Faraimo, the West Team pitchers will include Danielle Williams (Northwestern), Marissa Schuld (Arizona) and Shea O’Leary (Texas).
Pitching for the East will be Ashley Rogers (Tennessee), Kathryn Sandercock (Florida State), Elizabeth Hightower (Florida) and Brooke Vestal (Oklahoma).
Vestal won the PGF 18U Premier National Championship in 2016 and plays on the same club team, the Firecrackers, that includes her future Sooner teammate, outstanding shortstop Grace Lyons; however, they’ll be on opposite sides as the Arizona infielder is from Arizona and will represent the West.
College-wise, UCLA leads with four 2018 signees chosen as All-Americans followed by Florida, Northwestern and Texas A&M with three each and Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee and Washington all having two.
The players were selected after being nominated by high school and travel coaches and PGF Selection Committee members led by Derek and Joann Allister of OnDeck Softball, who are the All-American Game Directors. Others on the selection committee included representatives from the Gatorade Player of the Year program, USA Today, Extra Inning Softball and PGF.
On May 22, PGF announced its list of 2018 Regional All-Americans covering six areas of the country and honoring nearly 200 senior standouts
Coaches in the PGF All-American Game are Jennie Ritter, Crystal Bustos and Suzy Brazney on the East squad and Jennie Finch, Lovieanne Jung and Toni Mascarenas for the West team.
