With the new Early Recruiting no-contact rules to start on Wednesday, there’s been a rush of last second verbals since the ruling was announced last Wednesday and we’ll detail many of them this week.
The most interesting, perhaps, came down today as 2024 infielder Layla Lamar—daughter of James Lamar, her head coach with the Lady Dukes club team, and Marissa Young, the head coach of Duke University—announced via Facebook that she has committed to the University of Florida.
Layla is a power-hitting, speedy infielder who, despite only being a 6th grader, has advanced athleticism and softball IQ, not surprising since her parents are both heavily into softball as is her grandfather, Robert Young, an assistant on the Blue Devils staff and a long-time club coach in Southern California with the Firecrackers organization.
