As Extra Inning Softball reported Saturday afternoon via our Facebook page, several more sources in Oklahoma are confirming the news that longtime Oklahoma Sooner pitching coach, Melyssa Lombardi, has accepted the head coaching position at the University of Oregon.
According to a person close to the program, Head Coach Patty Gasso reportedly told Sooner players this afternoon of the move.
Lombardi helped develop top pitchers and catchers or the Big 12 school including Paige Parker, Keilani Ricketts, Michelle Gascoigne and many others in her 21 years as the pitching coach to Head Coach Patty Gasso.
In 2007, Lombardi was named Associate Head Coach. She had played for Gasso in 1995 and 1996 as a catcher and has been with her ever since.
Named the 2017 NFCA Assistant Coach of the Year, Lombardi helped develop 20 All-Americans and replaces Mike White, who left Oregon to take over the Texas position.
