Utah is hiring Courtney Martinez as the program’s new assistant coach, sources confirmed to Extra Inning Softball.
Martinez is expected to work with the Utes’ offense.
An assistant at Iowa State for the last six seasons, Martinez worked with the Cyclone offense and infielders during her tenure in Ames. She was part of the coaching staff that led the Cyclones to the NCAA tournament in 2021, breaking a three-decade-long postseason drought.
Prior to her tenure at ISU, Martinez’s resume includes stints on staff at UNLV, Cal State Bakersfield, Azusa Pacific, and Cal State Fullerton.
A Fullerton alumnus, she was part of four consecutive NCAA tournament squads at CSF and finished her career ranked in the top ten in Titan program history in four statistical categories.
At Utah, Martinez takes over the helm of an offense that is expected to return eight starters in 2024. The Utes are coming off a season that saw them post a .327 team batting average, with 47 home runs, 351 runs scored, and a team OPS of .867, as well as reach the Women’s College World Series for the first time in nearly three decades.
