Akron is expected to hire Craig Nicholson as head coach, sources confirmed to Extra Inning Softball on Tuesday.
Nicholson spent the last five seasons as the head coach at Texas A&M-Kingsville, collecting an overall record of 174-72 during his tenure. Under his guidance, the Javelinas also notched an 81-39 record in conference play.
Twice in Nicholson’s five years in Kingsville, the Javelinas reached the 50-win plateau; their best season under his leadership came in 2019, when the squad posted a 52-10 overall record and a 24-6 conference showing. During the 2022 campaign, the Javelinas again reached that level, finishing the year 50-12 with a 23-7 conference showing.
In 2019, the Javelinas played in the national championship series and finished as national runners-up.
Prior to taking the helm in Kingsville, Nicholson spent time as the head coach at Arizona State, Ball State, and Central Arizona College.
