CSUN and head coach Charlotte Morgan have agreed to a contract extension, the school announced on Thursday.
The new deal will stretch through the 2024 season; Morgan was originally hired as the Matadors’ head coach in December of 2020.
In a school statement, CSUN associate athletic director Shareef Amer said, “Charlotte has done an incredible job building up the softball team’s culture on and off the field. We are excited about the progress the team has made under her leadership and are thrilled to reward her with this well-deserved extension.”
The Matadors played only 26 games during the 2021 season, all but two of them against conference opponents, and collected a 6-20 overall record. The program was 2-0 in non-conference play that year, sweeping a doubleheader over San Diego.
During the 2022 season, the Matadors returned to non-conference play and amassed a 24-30 overall record, with a 14-13 showing against Big West Conference foes.
Earlier this summer, Morgan served as a facilitator for Athletes Unlimited’s AUX mini-season in San Diego.
Prior to taking the reins at CSUN, Morgan spent a summer as volunteer assistant at Cal State Fullerton. Her resume also includes two years on staff at UT-Arlington, as well as stints at Maryland, Georgia Tech, and Oklahoma State. She also worked as an analyst for ESPN and coached professional softball.
