Leading Off
Kayson Boatner is a cheat code. Division 2’s active home run leader added SIX longballs to her career total on opening weekend, helping her team to a 6-0 start; in the time since, she’s hit her 7th of the year and now boasts a .643 batting average. Boatner reached base safely in 18 of her 28 official at-bats and has scored a team-leading nineteen runs. For those of us who excelled more in English than in math, Boatner hit *twice as many* home runs as she did outs on opening week and has more extra-base hit on the season than she does outs. She also owns five doubles and 26 RBIs for good measure.
Mississippi College freshman pitcher Camryn Bailey has impressed thus-far through her rookie year. The first-year hurler owns a 1.46 ERA, is an undefeated 6-0 in the circle, and has allowed just seven earned runs in a team-leading 33.2 innings of work. The entire Choctaws pitching staff has been lights-out to start the year, boasting a team ERA of 1.44 with an opponent’s batting average of .205.
