UC-Davis head coach Erin Thorpe earned her 400th career win on Friday.
Thorpe notched the milestone victory in a 5-0 win that opened the Aggies’ conference series against Cal Poly. It was the third time this season that the Aggies opened a Big West series with a win, though they would go on to split the doubleheader.
Here are Five Fast Facts about the Aggies’ leader and her career to this point.
1. She is in her eighth season as the Aggies’ head coach.
Thorpe took the reins of the UC Davis program ahead of the 2015 season and has led the squad ever since. She is currently finishing her eighth year at the helm, a tenure that includes the abbreviated 2020 and 2021 seasons.
2. She was the inaugural head coach at Boise State.
Tasked with building a new program from the ground up at Boise State, Thorpe spent four years as the Broncos’ leader and led that program to a trio of 30-win seasons during her tenure. She also guided the Boise program in the transition from the WAC to the Mountain West Conference.
3. She began her coaching career just two years after her playing career ended.
Thorpe’s initial coaching position was at Division III Whittier College, a role that she stepped into in 2003, just two years following the completion of her own career on the diamond. She would go on to spend five seasons at the school before taking on the role at Boise State.
4. She was an All-American as a player.
During her own playing career at UC San Diego, Thorpe earned all-region honors in each of her four years as the Tritons’ starting shortstop. She earned All-American honors and in 2000 was named UCSD’s Female Athlete of the Year.
5. She has a degree and background in economics.
After graduating with her bachelor’s degree in economics and management science, Thorpe went on to earn a Master’s degree in business administration. She worked for Wells Fargo prior to beginning her coaching career and, during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, became a certified master financial coach through Ramsey Solutions.
