For the seventh consecutive week, Oklahoma stands atop the Extra Inning Softball Top 25 poll. The Sooners lead a group of four teams, including Virginia Tech, UCLA, and Northwestern who remain unchanged in their positions after unbeaten weekend performances.
Florida State returns to the top 5 after sweeping a 2-game series against Florida International in non-conference play. Alabama, who swept South Carolina in three games; Arkansas, who won their series over LSU; and Oklahoma State, who walloped Texas Tech in a 3-game set all also move up one spot.
The biggest riser in the Week 7 poll is Tennessee; the Lady Vols climb into the top 10 after shutting out archrivals Florida twice in the Swamp and winning the series over the hosting Gators.
UCF climbs to the #14 overall spot after sweeping a series over South Florida and Georgina Corrick to begin conference play. Arizona State moves up to #16 in the rankings after sweeping a 3-game series against bitter rival Arizona in Tucson.
A trio of Big Ten teams check in in the latter part of the poll; Wisconsin, who swept a 3-game series over Iowa, leads the trio, one spot above Michigan (0-3 this week) and two spots above Ohio State (3-1 this week).
Debuting in this week’s poll are the Boise State Broncos. Now 27-5 on the year, the Broncos are riding a 10-game winning streak and are a perfect 6-0 in conference play. LSU also is new to this week’s poll after spending last week out of the Top 25. The Tigers were 2-2 this week, losing two of three to Arkansas in an SEC series.
The SEC leads all leagues with eight teams in this week’s Top 25 poll, while the PAC-12, the Big 10 and the ACC all check in with four teams each in the poll. The Big 12 (3), American (1), and the Mountain West (1) round out the represented leagues in the Week 7 Top 25.
