Extra Recruiting: Emma Langston Verbals to Georgia

Emma Langston is a 2022 pitcher for the Georgia Impact Premier 04 team coached by Josh Fisher and recently committed to stay in-state and play in the SEC for the University of Georgia.

The 5-foot-10 right-handed pitcher throws in the 61-63 mph range with a nasty drop, change and an emerging riseball.

Emma has played in the Impact organization since her first year of 12U and has a runner-up finish at PGF Nationals at that age level; before that, the Peach State hurler helped lead the Tennessee Fury 10U team to a 3rd place finish at PGF.

The pitcher’s recruiting process began in the fall of 2016 when she impressed at a pair of showcases and then really took off this summer with appearances at the Scenic City, Thunderbolts Five Star and Atlanta Legacy showcases.

What solidified her stock as a top ’22 player, however, was a great run at PGF Nationals as she helped her Georgia Impact team fight through the Loser’s Bracket to make it to the championship game where the Impact team coached by her father, Michael Langston, fell to the Diamond Sports Hotshots 5-1 but finished with an impressive 7-2 record.

Emma finished the week going 5-1 with 38 K’s in 10 1/3rd innings giving up only five earned runs and eight walks during Nationals facing elite teams in the 12U age division including the So Cal Athletics, OC Batbusters, Birmingham Thunderbolts, Beverly Bandits and the Diamond Sports Hotshots.

The scouting report on Emma is she can pitch on both sides of the plate with a good mixture of drop, curve, screw and change. She is currently working on her rise as she hopes to add this pitch to the mix as well and if it clicks as her other pitches have she will be one of the most imposing pitchers in the nation.

Here’s an Extra Recruiting closer look at one of the fastest rising pitchers in the Southeast…

When did the Georgia staff first see you?

The first time I remember seeing them was at PGF Nationals this past summer. They were able to watch almost all of our games out there. After PGF, they followed our team this past fall as we played in showcases across the Southeast.

When did they officially offer you?

October 17, 2017. This was after I spent the weekend in Athens touring the campus and attending the football game versus Missouri.

How and where did you commit to the Georgia coaches?

My parents and I went down on a Saturday and watched the team practice and I got to watch Coach Fico work with the pitchers. At the end of practice, I asked if I could talk with the coaches. We sat down outside the coaches’ offices and I told them I wanted to attend college and play softball at the University of Georgia. They were all excited and we hugged and talked about how bright the future was. It felt great to commit to them!

What did they tell you they liked about you enough to offer?

They like that I’m a competitor and want the ball in the big games and my presence in the circle. They also like that I have the ability to pitch on both sides of the plate.

Did you consider other schools, like attend camps or take trips?

I attended camps at Georgia, Mississippi State, Kentucky, South Carolina, and Georgia Tech. I took unofficial visits to Mississippi State, Kentucky, South Carolina and Georgia. Calling the coaches I had become close with and telling them I was going to another school were very difficult calls. I was very lucky to get to know some of the best coaches in the country through this process.

What are you most proud of in your softball career?

Verbally committing to UGA.

What’s something about you that’s unusual or different that few people know?

I was given the nickname “Hollywood “ early in my softball career. I love to laugh and keep the game fun for my teammates.

Who is your hero (other than your family members)?

My pitching coach, Lacey Paris. She is amazing and I would not be where I am today without her.

Where do you see yourself being after your softball career ends?

Softball is providing me a chance that many people don’t get. It is allowing me to attend an amazing university while playing a game that I love. I can honestly say I’m not sure where it will lead me, but I can say that I’m looking forward to the journey.

What do you love most about softball?

Making friends, competing, and going places to play softball that I most likely would never get to go to.
