It’s not surprising that Taylor Middlebrook is a standout athlete as it comes with the DNA: her father, Tyrone, played football at the University of Georgia and her mother, Marcia, was an excellent basketball player.
Taylor had all the athletic tools it seemed, but the final ingredient that made her one of the best players in her class was an intangible part of her personality you just can’t teach.
“My competitive nature and self-determination are to be the best player for my team,” Taylor told Extra Inning Softball this week after we asked her what makes her an Extra Elite 100-caliber player. “Whether it’s defensively, stealing bases, hitting a monster shot or laying down the perfect bunt.”
Her club coach with the Birmingham Thunderbolts, Jay Roberson, calls Taylor an “elite athlete and an elite defender” and in December of 2016 she showed what she could do when she shined at the Faster2First Showcase in Myrtle Beach when she hit multiple home runs during the weekend including one in the live streamed All-Star game.
It was a special weekend for Taylor too as she made a phone call that would change her life.
“I committed to Mississippi State over the phone on December 10th during the Faster2First Showcase,” she remembers. “That was an awesome day!”
Here’s more on the special talent from the Peach State who was named this past week as one of the top prospects in her class…
