P.J. Finigan, who spent the 2022 season as the interim head coach of the SIU Edwardsville softball program, has returned to the college baseball coaching ranks.

Earlier this week, Finigan was named the associate head coach of Lindenwood University’s baseball team. The Lions are entering their first year as a Division 1 program.

Finigan resigned his post at SIUE in mid-June. He held the interim head coaching role for one season and departed the post with a second year still remaining on his contract. Prior to taking over the SIUE softball program, he had been part of the SIUE baseball coaching staff and had not coached softball.

As a baseball coach, Finigan spent nine years as the pitching coach at Southern Illinois prior to his stint at SIUE. His resume also includes a minor league playing career in the mid-2000s after being picked in the 7th round of the MLB draft by the Detroit Tigers.

During his sole season leading the SIUE softball program, Finigan led the Cougars to a 19-35 overall record and a 9-19 showing in conference play. The program finished 8th in the Ohio Valley standings and went 1-2 in the conference tournament.
