Tomorrow will mark the six month anniversary of our beloved editor, Carlos Arias, suffering a life-threatening stroke–it has been quite the roller-coaster ride where we at times thought we lost him.

Therefore, we’re extremely happy to announce that Carlos is back in the saddle (i.e. editor’s chair), ready to once again be writing and sharing his thoughts of what’s going on in the softball world as well as everything that’s going on in life overall!

Though not out of the woods yet as he is still facing recovery work and challenges, the California-based longtime writer for the Orange County Register, boxing and mixed martial arts enthusiast and faspitch softball aficionado is back as of Monday contributing the content he’s so well known for.

Below is an update from the man himself sharing with us where he is today… we will continue to root him on as he gets back to full health while simultaneously enjoying his great insights into this sport we love.

Brentt Eads, Extra Inning Softball

*****

Hey Softball Nation, thanks again for all the Tweets and kind words of encouragement.

As most know, I’ve been out since May because of a stroke. Everything has been a battle … getting out of bed, getting into my chair, going to the bathroom, taking a shower.

I don’t have use of my right leg, yet. I’m working hard on my outpatient rehab. I recently walked (with a walker) 215 steps. I’m making a little bit of progress every day. My Mom and Dad (especially my Mom) have been there every step of the way.

I was worried about my ability to text, Tweet and read. I’ve slowly been working my way back on Twitter.

The softball people have been amazing. I feel comfortable working on Twitter, text and emails.I don’t know about covering a tournament 24/7, yet, but I will work my way back. By next summer I will be able to cover tournaments from the early morning till late at night.

My family and Extra Inning Softball El Jefe Brentt Eads have also been there every step of the way.

I will be back doing signing/verbal commitments, The Last Innings, Extra Star Power features and team rankings.

I forgot to mention how much of a help my dog, La La, a 20-pound Terrier mix from the pound, has been. La La doesn’t do anything, but she coordinates everything. She has been the best offensive coordinator through all of this.

I just recently found out my Dad has COVID. He also had a slight case of pneumonia, but he’s already getting better.

My Mom and I had to get tested because of our proximity to my Dad. We just got tested on Friday morning. Neither of us has symptoms, but we had to get tested and stay quarantined. We have all been double vaccinated. My Mom and I should hear test results by Monday.

Nothing will stop me or hinder my progress! I will keep training and exercising. The signings/commitments will keep flowing, I have Extra Star Powers on the way and TLIs (The Last Inning) start on Monday.

Thanks again for all the encouragement.

Me and La are going to check out the rest of Disney+ Day… Shang-Chi isn’t going to watch itself.
