Division II Ferris State named Jake Schumann as their new head coach on Wednesday, December 21st.
The Bulldogs’ head coaching position had been open since Kristin Janes’ resignation in September after five years as head coach.
Schumann is a former Division 1 head coach, previously leading the programs at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Florida International. He also served as an assistant coach at Ole Miss and Iowa, in addition to a stint as head coach at Division II Texas A&M-Kingsville.
Most recently, Schumann spent the last three years as a coach and administrator at the high school level in Michigan. He last coached at the collegiate level in 2016, the final year of his two-season stint at Iowa.
“I’m excited to have an outstanding opportunity to get back into collegiate softball coaching, which is my passion, at Ferris State and believe we have the tools in place to reach great heights,” Schumann said in a statement. “It’s great that this position opened at the right time in the right place and we’ll get to work quickly to establish a foundation for future success.”
At Ferris State, Schumann takes over a program that finished the 2022 season with a 19-32 overall record and a 9-17 conference showing.
