Virginia will hire Jeff Tylka as an assistant coach, sources confirmed to Extra Inning Softball on Tuesday.
Tylka spent the last three years as an assistant at Penn State. He is expected to work with the UVA offense.
At Penn State, Tylka was part of the staff that guided the Nittany Lions to the nation’s greatest improvement in 2022, a 25-win turnaround year-to-year. After reaching the 30-win plateau in 2022 and ’23, the Nittany Lions hit that plateau in consecutive years for the first time since 2005 and ’06.
Prior to his tenure at Penn State, Tylka spent five years as the head coach at Loyola Chicago. He earned 111 wins during his tenure leading the Ramblers, including setting a program single-season record for team batting average in 2019. He also previously spent three years as an assistant at Loyola before being elevated to the head coach’s role.
