Thursday morning’s unceremonious firing of NC State head coach Jennifer Patrick-Swift leaves the Wolfpack without a head coach literally hours before the start of ACC play. Following Patrick-Swift’s departure, the program is currently being led by a former community college assistant coach on the field and a deputy athletic director off the field.
Even with a lack of success in the program over the last few years, the move surprised some, as mid-season firings of softball coaches isn’t a super-common practice. Nevertheless, the Wolfpack are the first Power 5 program with a job opening on this year’s Coaching Carousel.
How good is the Wolfpack’s head coaching position? Can they attract a quality candidate who can turn things around? And just who might some of those candidates be?
