Virginia Tech is hiring Josh Johnson as the program’s new pitching coach, sources confirmed to Extra Inning Softball on Thursday.
Johnson spent the last four seasons on staff at Mississippi State, finishing his tenure with the title of Associate Head Softball Coach/Recruiting Coordinator. He worked with the Bulldogs’ bullpen and, in 2022, was part of the coaching staff that guided the Bulldogs to an upset win in the Tallahassee Regional and an opportunity to host the Starkville Super Regional for the first time in program history.
In addition to his coaching endeavors, Johnson also has pursued his doctorate degree in biomechanics while at Mississippi State.
Prior to his tenure at Mississippi State, spent four seasons as the pitching coach at Ball State. His resume also includes one season as the pitching coach at UTEP and one season in a similar role at Louisiana-Lafayette. He also previously spent three seasons as head coach at Faulkner State Community College and spent more than a decade as a men’s fastpitch player.
