Murray State head coach Kara Amundson earned her 300th career win in a 3-0 triumph over Indiana State on Saturday.

Here are Five Fast Facts about the Racers’ leader.

1. All of her wins have come as Murray State head coach.

Now in her 11th season leading the Murray State program, all of Amundson’s 300 victories have come at the helm of the Racers. She took the helm of the program in July 2012 and has been in the role ever since.

2. She has been part of the Murray State program since its inception.

Since the Murray State softball program began in 2010, Amundson has been around Racer Field. Hired as an assistant coach ahead of the 2010 season, she served in that capacity in 2010 and 2011 before taking the helm of the program as head coach in the summer of 2012.

3. She previously served as the Racers’ head tennis coach.

In 2012, Amundson added an extra piece to her coaching resume, serving as the head coach of Murray State’s women’s tennis team for the year. A high school tennis player, Amundson had offers to play in college but chose to play softball. She led the Racers to a 12-11 record on the court during her interim tenure as coach.

4. She led the Racers to their first-ever postseason appearances.

In 2017, Amundson’s squad played in the National Invitational Softball Championship postseason tournament, but in 2022, the Racers officially made the Big Dance. By virtue of winning their first Ohio Valley Conference tournament title, the Racers qualified for the NCAA tournament and earned the regional-#3 seed in the Tuscaloosa regional.

5. She played in the Women’s College World Series.

During her playing career at DePaul, Amundson was part of the Blue Demons squads that went to the Women’s College World Series in 2005 and 2007. The Blue Demons were undefeated in Big East play in 2007 and finished in a tie for 5th nationally after their showing in Oklahoma City.
