Milestone wins happen at every level and Christopher Newport head coach Keith Parr reached one this weekend when he earned his 600th career victory.
Parr, who leads Division III CNU, reached the noteworthy victory in a 14-0 win over Muhlenberg on Sunday. While the Captains’ head coach celebrates his milestone win, here are Five Fast Facts about him and his career.
1. He is in his 19th season leading the CNU program.
Parr took the reins of the Captains’ program in 2003 and has led the team since the 2004 season. An assistant coach prior to assuming his current role, Parr is currently in his 23rd season overall on the CNU softball staff.
2. He is a 6-time conference Coach of the Year.
When CNU competed in the USA South, Parr received four Coach of the Year awards from 2004 to 2011. In the Capital Athletic Conference, he has earned the award twice, in 2015 and again in 2018.
3. His team reached the 30-win plateau in thirteen straight years.
From 2007-2019, the Captains reached the 30-win plateau in every season; the streak was broken only by the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. In 2010, during that time, the Captains won 42 games, the most in a single season in program history.
4. He is a CNU alumnus.
A 1999 graduate of Christopher Newport, Parr played college baseball for the Captains. In his senior season on the diamond, he posted a 2.66 ERA and won five games.
5. The Captains are undefeated in 2022.
CNU has gotten off to a red-hot start during the 2022 season. After beginning their season on February 26th, the Captains have reeled off fifteen straight wins to begin the year 15-0. They have reached double-digits in scoring in nine of their first fifteen games.
