Miami Ohio head coach Kirin Kumar earned her 100th career win in a triumph over the Ohio Bobcats on Saturday.
As the Redhawks’ leader celebrates the milestone victory, here are Five Fast Facts about her career.
1. She is in her third season as head coach.
Kumar took the helm of the Miami program ahead of the 2021 season. It was the first head coaching position of her career.
2. Her team has won every conference title with her as head coach
That’s not hyperbole; with Kumar as head coach, the Redhawks have won the MAC regular-season championship in two consecutive seasons and also won the MAC tournament in 2022. There was no conferene tournament in 2021.
3. In her first two seasons, the Redhawks were lost just seven conference games.
With the 2021 season containing an enhanced conference schedule, then a full conference slate in 2022, the Redhawks owned a 60-7 record in conference play entering the 2023 campaign. The squad owned an .896 winning percentage across the two seasons.
4. Her coaching career included stints as an assistant coach at seven schools.
Prior to becoming a head coach, Kumar was an assistant coach on staff at North Carolina; NC State; Virginia Tech; Western Kentucky; Tennessee Tech; and Tulsa in two separate stints.
5. She played college softball at Georgia Tech.
During her collegiate playing career, Kumar was part of the Georgia Tech squad that made four NCAA tournament appearances. At the time of her graduation, she had appeared in 251 games and ranked second in program history in that category.
