Northwestern State is hiring Lacy Prejean as the program’s new head coach, sources confirmed to Extra Inning Softball on Thursday.
The Natchitoches Parish Journal first reported Prejean’s hiring.
Prejean spent the last five years as an assistant at Louisiana-Lafayette, working with the Cajuns’ infield and defense and serving as the first-base coach. In 2023, she was part of the staff that led the Cajuns to a berth in the Seattle Super Regional.
In addition to her most recent tenure in Lafayette, Prejean was also part of the Ragin Cajuns’ coaching staff from 2005-07. She also spent two years as Director of Operations at Alabama, her alma mater, and spent several years in private business and coaching travel ball before returning to the Cajuns’ staff.
Named the 2000 SEC Freshman of the Year as a player at Alabama, Prejean spent four years as the Crimson Tide’s starting catcher. She was part of two Alabama squads that reached the Women’s College World Series, in 2000 and 2003, respectively.
