Lipscomb head coach Kristin Ryman recorded the 500th win of her head coaching career in a 4-2 win over Nicholls at the Mardi Gras Mambo on Friday night.
Ryman, now in her 17th season leading the Bisons program, recorded the milestone win that also served as her team’s fourth win of the 2022 season.
As she celebrates the milestone victory, here are Five Fast Facts about Ryman and her career.
1. She is coaching at her alma mater
Formerly Kristin Peck, the Bisons head coach was once in uniform and on the diamond for the program. She earned a number of accolades during her playing career, including a pair of all-region honors and three all-conference selections. She was inducted into the Lipscomb Hall of Fame in 2019.
2. She was a multi-sport athlete during her playing career.
In addition to playing softball at Lipscomb, Ryman also played volleyball as a Bison. On the court, she led the ASun in kills and was an all-conference selection in 2003, and her 58 aces that same year rank as the sixth-most in a single season in conference history.
3. She has led Lipscomb to three NCAA tournament appearances.
Since taking the helm of the Lipscomb program prior to the 2006 season, Ryman has led the Bisons to the NCAA tournament on three occasions, most recently in 2019. She also led the program to the NCAA postseason in 2010 and 2014.
4. She is a 3-time conference Coach of the Year.
After leading her team to a share of the ASun regular-season title in 2008, her third year at the program’s helm, Ryman was named the ASun Coach of the Year. She repeated as the award’s winner in 2010 and 2019, both years when she led her team to the NCAA tournament.
5. She has a history of academic and athletic success on her rosters.
In 2015, Lipscomb ranked first in the nation with their 3.645 team GPA on the year. In three other years since that time, the Bisons have finished in the top 35 nationally in that category.
