The Maryland Terrapins and the Penn State Nittany Lions will face off in a fall-ball exhibition matchup this weekend.
More than just an ordinary fall game, the showdown between Big 10 rivals will take place at Howard J. Lamade Stadium in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, the famous home of the Little League World Series.
An idea that originated in 2015 from Keith Calta – a Williamsport native and the father of a former Maryland softball player – is now coming to fruition after seven years. The game almost happened in 2020 until the COVID-19 pandemic eliminated that year as an option.
Timing is everything, as the saying goes, and the game has excellent timing – baseball’s Little League World Series celebrated its 75th anniversary this summer, while the Little League Softball World Series earned its highest television ratings ever earlier this year.
Saturday’s festivities are monikered as the first annual Girls with Game Experience event; in addition to the 4:30 pm game, the day will feature a two-hour softball clinic that will include players and coaching staffs from both teams, as well as Calta’s Maryland Black Ice camp organization.
