
Wisconsin is hiring Mike Roberts as the program’s new pitching coach, sources confirmed to Extra Inning Softball.
Roberts spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach at Virginia, working with the Hoos’ pitching staff. During the 2023 season, the UVA bullpen posted a cumulative 2.96 ERA, with a .242 opponent’s batting average and 330 strikeouts in 345 innings of work in the circle.
Prior to his tenure at Virginia, Roberts spent three seasons on staff at Louisiana, serving as the Ragin Cajuns’ pitching and infield coach. He also spent one year as head coach at Buffalo; three years on staff at Washington; and one year on staff at Oregon.
From 2009-12, Roberts served on staff at Wisconsin-Green Bay; it was his first collegiate coaching position.
A veteran men’s fastpitch player, Roberts was part of eight New Zealand national title-winning squads and was twice named an ASA Men’s All-American.
During the 2023 campaign, Wisconsin’s pitching staff posted a 2.40 team ERA, with 27 wins, 239 strikeouts, and a .244 opponent’s batting average.
