After kicking off a 30-game summer series on Friday, June 8 that would ultimately cover five states–Texas, Colorado, Louisiana, California and South Carolina–the Scrap Yard Fast Pitch pro team dodged the rain as long as it could in Myrtle Beach to get in a 5 1/2 game 4-0 win by Monica Abbott over the Scrap Yard team.
Abbott gave up just one hit–a triple to Kiki Stokes–as she continued her domination of opposing batters, be it on her own team or against international competition (Abbott played for USA Team Red, which won the USA Softball Internal Cup this summer).
She had nine strikeouts in five innings and her counterpart, Cheridan Hawkins, took the lose giving up three hits although two were home runs, to Hannah Flippen and Valerie Arioto.
The Nationals win gave them the two-game sweep over Scrap Yard after the team came back to win 6-5 Tuesday after trailing by three heading into the bottom of the seventh and tying it before winning in the bottom of the 9th when Mo Mercado scored on an error.
