Nationals Wins Extra Inning Thriller to Even Series; Final Home Game Tonight

Carly Hoover pitched 7 1/3rd innings allowing two earned runs with eight strikeouts to get the win for the Nationals Wednesday night.

The middle game of the three-game series at the Scrap Yard Sports Complex in Conroe, Texas–the last Scrap Yard Fast Pitch home stand of the summer–was a thriller as neither team ever led by more than one and the game went into extra innings before the Nationals pulled out the 3-2 victory over Scrap Yard in eight innings.

Carly Hoover pitched a strong game, throwing 145 pitches and keeping her team in the game as she gave up just two earned runs over 7 1/3rd innings before handing the ball to Monica Abbott in the eighth inning. Abbott promptly recorded two strikeouts to record the save.

The offensive star for the winning Nationals team was Jazymn Jackson who went 2-for-2 with a home run in top of the second inning for the first run of the game. She later would get on base via a walk and HBP and had a key single in the top of the 8th inning that moved ITB runner Ali Aguilar over to third, allowing her to score the eventual winning run on a sac fly by Kasey Cooper.

Haley McCleney robbed Nerissa Myers of a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The defensive play of the game came in the bottom of the 5th when Scrap Yard trailed 2-1 but looked to go ahead on what looked to be a two-run home run by Nerissa Myers to deep center field, but Haylie McCleney made a leaping catch to record the out and prevent the home team from going ahead.

Cheridan Hawkins pitched a strong game in the losing cause, going five innings for Scrap Yard giving up two earned runs with four strikeouts, but didn’t get the decision. Morgan Foley pitched the final three innings and though she didn’t give up an earned run, took the loss.

The final home game for the summer at the Sports Complex takes place tonight at 7:05 pm CST and with each team having one win this week will decide who gets bragging rights… at least until the final two games of the summer season next week in Myrtle Beach.
