Odicci Alexander is joining the coaching staff at Howard University as an assistant coach.
Alexander, who rose to be a household name in the sport as she led James Madison’s Cinderella-run to the 2021 Women’s College World Series, is currently playing in the third season of Athletes Unlimited.
Following her graduation from JMU with the 2021 season, Alexander spent part of the 2022 college season as the volunteer assistant coach at North Carolina before departing that role to play professionally in Japan.
Discussing the hire on her personal Instagram account, Howard head coach Tori Tyson noted that the program has never had two assistant coaches in the past.
“I’m heavy on leaving places better than you find them! This needed to happen! Who better to be the 1st person to fill this role?” Tyson wrote, adding “Howard softball is on the brink of something special, nobody has led a team to unfathomable places like [Alexander] did! Beyond her stardom she truly loves to teach the game, and I’m excited for her to take our team to a new level!”
While at James Madison, Alexander posted a career 2.18 ERA with 712 strikeouts in 640 innings of work. During the 2021 season, she posted a career-best opponent’s batting average of .155. She also recorded more than 600 at-bats during her career as a Duke, finishing with a .337 lifetime batting average and 39 home runs to her credit.
