OnDeck Softball Report: SoCal Organizational Challenge This Weekend; Colorado Tryout Results from Last Weekend

Derek and Joanne Allister and the OnDeck staff are busy these days, in the midst of their fall tour that’s taking them all over the country.

This weekend, the tour hits Southern California with elite club teams and players being tested as part of the OnDeck & Triple Crown sponsored Showcase at Big League Dreams & Organizational Challenge… this following a successful OnDeck tryout in Denver last week.

Here’s a look ahead to this weekend’s event and some of the top standouts from last weekend’s tryout in the Mile High City, the 14th and last tryout of the 2018 tour!

OnDeck Softball & TCS Present Showcase at Big League Dreams

Triple Crown, OnDeck Softball, and ODM® combine the best of tournament bracket play, evaluations, and athletic Testing in an extensive event at Rosetta Canyon Park in Lake Elsinore, California this weekend (October 13th and 14th).

OnDeck Softball and ODM® will hold an Organizational Challenge that will include some of the biggest names in the travel ball world:

• Mike Stith’s OC Batbusters
• Tony Rico’s Firecrackers
• Dave Mercado’s Athletics
• Marty Tyson’s Corona Angels
• Gary and Dean Fausett’s So Cal Choppers
• Sean Brashear’s Firecrackers
• Brant Beddow’s SoCal Breakers
• Randy Kaye’s Firecrackers-Arizona
• Jeff Blanco’s Monarchs
• Dennis Gomes’ NorCal Batbusters
• Wayne Miller’s Washington Ladyhawks

The teams of uncommitted players will also play a competitive bracket tournament that will result in a winner being crowned champion.

OnDeck Softball will be on hand to evaluate players throughout the weekend, and ODM®, softball’s nationally acclaimed testing company, will test all players and recognize the top performers in each testing category.

“This is going to be an interesting two days,” said Derek Allister from OnDeck. “There will be 208 uncommitted players from some of the top organizations in the West that have been chosen to play in this event. It will be exciting to see them compete in an old-school winner take all tournament.”

Added Joann Allister, president of OnDeck Softball: “We are excited to watch and evaluate these young players this weekend. The event will start at 8 am on Saturday and will conclude Sunday with a championship game between the last two teams standing.”

One of the featured teams is the OC Batbusters led by Mike Stith. The coach told Extra Inning Softball today: “I think the event is a good idea and I think in the future it will grow. It’s good for the universities in the shorter recruiting window to see top kids since they can see them compete against other elite players at the same time.”

Denver Tryout

OnDeck Softball’s Denver tryout took place on October 7th – a cold and windy day in the Mile High City.

The talent level was exceedingly high, and a solid number of players will be moving on to OnDeck events this Fall or next Summer. The day was highlighted by the play of a number of players; however, several really stood out with comments from Derek Allister:

• “Sarah Tiffany, who plays for the Colorado Stars and Brighton (Colorado) High School, combines excellent speed and quickness with good physical strength. The 2020 outfielder was outstanding both offensively and defensively.”
• “Her teammate, 2020 catcher/utility player Chloe Doyle, was also superb in the workout. Chloe displays a wide range of ability both behind the plate and on the dirt. She is also a very solid hitter with gap power.”
• “Bryna Kapelke, another Colorado Star, also showed very well. The 2021 outfielder is a gifted athlete who can run, throw, and hit for power. All three of these young athletes have a chance to play at the next level with some hard work over the next two or three years.

COLORADO FALL TRYOUT LEADERS

This was the third year of OnDeck’s Denver tryouts; tryouts are held all across the country and serve as a feeder system for OnDeck Softball’s elite recruiting events.

The tryout system provides approximately 48% of the players who attend the elite events, which take place in SoCal, NorCal, Colorado, Arizona, and Chicago.
