PGF 12U Nationals Player to Watch: Florida State Commit Ashtyn Danley of TN Mojo 2023

Ashtyn Danley on the Florida State campus… she committed to the Seminoles on April 2, 2018.

The PGF 12U Premier Nationals starts this week and one of the teams who is a favorite to win it all is the Tennessee Mojo 2023 squad coached by Mike Danley who is blessed with two of the top pitchers in the age group–Makayla Huddleston and his daughter, Ashtyn Danley, who we profiled in April when she committed (pre-implementation of the Early Recruiting rules, obviously) to Florida State.

Ashtyn is also a force on offense and will be counted on to contribute both ways if the Mojo are going to go the title game, but Coach Danley believes he has the firepower in the circle and at the plate to do it.

As he told SoCalSidelines.com this week, “For us to compete (at PGF Nationals), we have to swing the bat very well. I believe we have two of the best pitchers in the country… these girls compliment each other extremely well by mixing in speed and power with very good off-speed.”

Here’s a closer look at Ashtyn on and off the field…

You’ve had a lot of major accomplishments so far in softball and you’re still pretty young! What age did you start playing softball and what’s one of your earliest memories?
I started playing softball when I was four years old. When I was six, I was playing pitcher in a state championship and made three throwing errors and my dad moved me to shortstop and the next ball was hit to me and I made the throw for the final out of the game.

Did you play other sports from a young age and finally settle on softball? Or did you know early on that it was the sport for you?
I played basketball and soccer. I love to compete, but I had to cut one, so I could work on the game I love, softball. Softball has always been my first love.
