The PGF Shootout is one of the top events of the fall season and after two full days of competition spread out over Southern California the last two days, will see champions crowned on Sunday.
Here are the brackets with the finalists and the times they’ll compete:
- 18U: 8:30 am… Beverly Bandits – Tyrrell/Kelly vs So Cal A’s – Richardson
- 16U: 10:30 am… Athletics – Greg vs. Beverly Bandits – Conroy
- 14U: 12:30 pm… Cal Breeze – Fernald vs. Athletics – Greg
- 12U: 4:30 pm… TBD
Interestingly, of the six teams who have been finalized for Sunday’s competition, there are two organizations represented at two different age groups: the Beverly Bandits at 18U and 16U and the Athletics – Greg at 16U and 14U.
Here’s a quick recap of how each age division got to the final two teams:
18U MATCH-UP:
There have been nine PGF 18U Premier National Champs since the event started in 2000 and the A’s (4) and Bandits (1) have won five of them.
These two prestigious organizations had to beat some powerful teams to get to Sunday’s final match-up: the Beverly Bandits had a tough gauntlet in the California Cruisers – Mel, Corona Angels – Tyson and the Jersey Intensity – KOD teams to make the title game while the Bruce Richardson’s Athletics had to defeat Sorcerer-Williams, Salinas Storm, Athletics – TO and USA Athletics.
The styles of the two teams were fairly different, however.
The Bandits, normally known for playing precision small-ball, used the power game to go undefeated on Friday and Saturday as outfielders Kiki Milloy (Tennessee) and Hallie Wacaser (Florida State) have each clubbed three home runs this weekend and others such as Sydney Supple (Northwestern) and Jaylin Calvert (Oregon) have also come up big in going yard.
