Pre-Signing Preview: Abby Cousins… Waiting to Sign But For Two Good Reasons!

Abby Cousins will sign on the day that is also her 18th birthday!

The National Letter of Intent Signing Period for softball DI and DII schools starts tomorrow but goes all the way through to August 1, 2019. You don’t HAVE to sign tomorrow and some choose to sign later for various reasons.

Below you’ll learn why one talented Class of 2019 player is waiting a few weeks… as they say, “good things come to those who wait” and Abby Cousins has two good reasons why!

Another thing about her choice: the softball coach she’ll play for at A&M-Commerce is the only one the program has had, but it’s only three years old so Abby will get to help set the course the program goes…

Name:  ABBY COUSINS
Club team: Lady Stros 18U Gold
High School (City/State): Needville (Needville, Texas)
Position(s): Right-handed pitcher/utility
College: Texas A&M – Commerce

1. Where and when will you be signing your Letter of Intent this week?
I will sign my NLI at my high school on December 7th. I chose this day for two reasons: one, there will be many people signing this week and I wanted to wait and make sure my coaches could attend without conflict and two, December 7th is also my 18th birthday!

2. Will it be a big occasion or more low-key?
It will be a big occasion at school and then we will have a reception to follow at my house for about 50 people to celebrate the NLI and my birthday.

3. Will you do anything to celebrate the big event?
Yes, we will have a large reception at my house afterwards. We are going to have catered food and desserts.

4. What date did you actually commit and how long ago was it?
I committed to Coach (Richie) Bruister last year on November 10, 2017.

5. What highlight stands out to you about the recruiting process?
The uncertainty of not knowing how the process was going. I didn’t know my coach was interested until the final camp.

6. What was the deciding factor in helping you know A&M-Commerce was where you wanted to go?
The Coaches. Coach Bruister was interested in me as a pitcher which is something important to me.

7. What will signing with your dream school mean to you personally and to those who’ve been part of your success (family, coaches, teammates, etc.)?
Personally it makes the journey worth it and knowing all the hard work and time pays off.

8. How much Lions’ gear do you have?
A lot, but never enough!

9. What’s next for you and your softball plans this year?
Looking forward to my senior year of high school ball.

10. Did you ever think this day—signing with your dream school—would come?
I knew I would be signing, but I didn’t think I would be lucky enough to sign with TAMUC!
