Asa Vigil, if anything, is dedicated. Once the Southern California infielder/outfielder visited New Mexico State she knew on the first visit it was where it she wanted to sign.
She visited the Western Athletic Conference school several times and hilariously says she has so much NMSU stuff that “I can wear NMSU gear every day for two months and not have worn anything twice!”
Here’s more on the player coached in Jeff Blanco’s Monarchs’ organization….

1. Where will you be signing your Letter of Intent this week?
Geezers Restaurant in Santa Fe Springs, California at the 3rd annual Monarchs Player NLI Banquet.
2. Will it be a big occasion or more low-key?
It will very big… family, friends and teammates will all be in attendance.
3. Will you do anything to celebrate the big day?
Enjoy the moment with my team, Mom and Dad and brother Aidan and sister Remy.
4. What date (if you remember) did you actually commit and how long ago was it?
November 16, 2016… it feels like yesterday.
5. What highlight stands out to you about the recruiting process?
It was a long journey with quite a few visits to NMSU in one year. A lot of emotions throughout the process. This was my Number 1 school and I wanted it bad which added to the pressure.
6. What was the “aha” moment when you knew the program was the right one for you?
On the very first visit. I knew Coach (Kathy) Rodolph and Coach Cat (Heifner) were my coaches. They made it very easy to want to play for them and the program.
7. What will signing with your dream school mean to you personally and to those who’ve been part of your success (family, coaches, teammates, etc.)?
Just looking back at when I started travel ball and how fast it actually went by and here we are now about to make it official. My teammates have become like sisters and my family has sacrificed a lot to help me make my dream into reality.
8. How much gear/product do you have of your future school?
(Laughs)I love this question. I can wear NMSU gear every day for two months and not have worn anything twice.
9. What’s next for you and your softball plans this year?
Train hard going into the season and to finish strong with my team in Colorado and PGF. To leave it all out there.
10. Did you ever think this day—signing with your dream school—would come?
It always seemed so far down the road but, it’s here now and lots of emotions with this and being my senior year. It’s amazing how fast it all went by, but I am ready for this next phase in softball and college.
