The Puerto Rican national team has finalized their roster for the upcoming 2022 Pan American Championship, which will take place in Guatemala from November 12-19.
Former college stars and current professional players Aleshia Ocasio and Taran Alvelo headline the roster and will helm the team’s pitching staff. Both are veterans of the national program whose previous experience includes helping the squad attempt to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Other members of the team whose names may be familiar to college softball fans are Gianna Mancha; Geana Torres; Jena Cozza; Karla Claudio; and Aleimalee Lopez.
Mancha enjoyed a stellar senior season in 2022 at UCF, helping guide the Knights to their first-ever regional hosting opportunity and a Super Regional berth. She played professionally this summer. Torres is currently rostered at Syracuse, having previously played for both Missouri and Louisiana-Lafayette. Cozza starred at UMass, while Claudio and Lopez are both current college coaches, at South Florida and FIU, respectively.
Class of 2024 pitcher Macey Cintron, who plays for the Lady Dukes organization and is committed to Duke, is also on the roster.
