Recruiting Roundup

Extra Inning Recruiting Roundup—the Latest Breaking News!

Today we cover some of the hottest news from the recruiting side of softball including the latest top players to make the happy decision of where they’ll play at the next level!

*** Alia Logoleo, a 2019 OF/UT standout for the TN Fury Platinum team led by Sam Thomas, has committed to Clemson and will be one of the first incoming players in the ACC’s new softball program.

Thomas told Extra Inning Softball, “As the best hitter and athlete on our team, Alia had dozens of offers from D1 schools in both softball and volleyball, including SEC and ACC schools.”

“This past travel season, Alia led the team in batting average (.414), home runs (17) and RBI (47).  She has played all nine positions for us and plays them at a high level.”

“As a sophomore this past high school season at Hillsboro (Tennessee) High, Alia hit an incredible .821.  As a freshman two years ago, Alia hit 17 HR’s in 21 games before getting injured.”

*** Megan Grant, a 2022 SS with the West Bay Warriors, recently committed to UCLA, one of three 8th graders the Bruins who have picked up along with MIF Kennedy Powell (Diamond Sports Hotshots) and C Caitlyn Newburn (Lady Magic… see our profile of Newburn and the Magic team here).

Warriors President Ray McDonald says of his 2022 standout, “Megan takes her God-given athletic ability and strives to elevate it wherever she goes. She stays until 10:30 pm in our facility, until the lights get turned off at the practice field and wants to outwork anybody who shows up whether they’re 10 or 22 years old.”

Grant is a relative newcomer to softball as she just started playing fastpitch in February of 2017, as she was a baseball pitcher up until that point even making a trip to Cooperstown.

Last summer she started playing catcher, the corner positions, centerfield and even shortstop at the 12U age division.

Continues McDonald, “Megan settled in at shortstop with her incredible arm strength and range. She hits for power from the left side with speed on the bases. Her physical skills combined with her demeanor, unwavering self-confidence and leadership ability started catching the eye of college coaches last July at 12U PGF Nationals.”

“After our 7th place finish in Huntington Beach, she was on a flight the next day to play in the 14U ASA Nationals in Chattanooga, Tennessee where her college recruiting journey really began.”

“Her first question when we started to explain what the recruiting process meant for her was ‘So when can UCLA come watch me play?’ Four months later, she attended her first UCLA camp and a month after that, she could officially call herself a future Bruin!”

UCLA has had success with converted baseball players in the very recent past: current junior utility player Zoe Shaw had played softball less than a year when she became recruited while playing for Dean Faussett’s So Cal Choppers team and eventually ended up in Westwood.

*** Kamryn Davis, a 2021 MIF/OF with the Firecrackers Brashear/Oakes team, has committed to Maryland.

Coach Robert Oakes, one of the coaches along with Sean Brashear, says of Kamryn, “She is a great kid! Kamryn’s a slapper with elite speed—she is about 2.7 home-to-first, and is pretty much automatic to get to third base every time she gets on and if a pitcher or a catcher falls asleep she will delay steal.”

“There have been times where we have scored a run without putting the ball in play because of Kamryn on the bases. Our team focuses on creating havoc on the bases and she is the leader in doing that!”

Defensively, the So Cal standout who was a USSSA Select 30 1st Team All-American, can play shortstop, second base and outfield.

Continues Coach Oakes, “She has great range and a strong arm so she excels in all these positions. She helped us win a PGF Nationals title as a first year 14U team in the Platinum division last season. In the championship game she reached base three times and scored every time she was on.”

*** Josh Fisher of Georgia Impact has had a big run of verbals recently including one that happened last Friday.  Here’s a note he sent us which he also put on his Facebook page… here’s what he wrote:

We want to give a big congratulations to our latest verbal commitment, as 2022, Brionna “Juice” Condon (Woodstock, Georgia), has verbally committed to further her Academic & Athletic career, beyond high school, at The University of South Carolina.”

Brionna Condon with Gamecock Head Coach Bev Smith

“Juice, along with her Father , Craig and Mother, Michele, are in Columbia, SC today (Feb. 2) on her 2nd unofficial visit to the Gamecocks. Just a short while ago, Brionna & her Family, sat down and met with Head Coach Beverly Smith, to share and reveal the news of her commitment. Although an awesome decision this youngster has made, it was also a very challenging one. Juice went through the entire recruitment process, very thoroughly, deliberately to come to this decision.”

“A big thanks to the aforementioned Coach Smith, Associate Head Coach Lisa Navas, as well as, Coaches Matt Lisle & Matt Stewart, for making Juice feel like a Gamecock from Day 1.”

“Brionna becomes our 4th player to verbally commit, as she joins her teammates, 2023 Mia “Lil Mama” Williams (University of Florida) and fellow 2022’s Jaydyn “Shorty” Goodwin (University of Georgia) and Emma “Hollywood” Langston (University of Georgia). Juicey, we are all very excited, proud and extremely happy for you and your family on this special day!

*** Addison Purvis, a 2020 right-handed pitcher for Top Gun Academy, has committed to play at Mississippi State after receiving other SEC offers and interest.

Addie started gaining interest after leading her Sullivan (Missouri) High team to the State Championship in 2016 and continued to draw national interest as a sophomore including her being named as the MaxPreps/NFCA Player of the Week for August 28-September 3, 2017.

This season, according to one Top Gun coach, her pitches have picked up 5 mph and she was clocked at the Missouri camp at 64 mph on her curveball.

A two-way threat who also swings a big bat, one SEC coach was quoted as saying, “Addison could hit right now for our program.”

Thanks to Coach Joe Wright who runs Georgia Impact – Wright who passes along four verbals to add to our list:

  • SS Gabi Apiag (2019, Alabama-Birmingham)
  • P/1B Dani Fairey (2019, Emmanual)
  • P/OF Kailyn Berry (2019, Tennessee State)
  • C Caroline Lively (2020, Jacksonville State)
