Loyola Marymount legend Sam Fischer and Pacific great Cindy Ball-Malone were among the group of inductees announced this week as part of the 2023 West Coast Conference Hall of Honor class.
The induction class includes ten members, one from each of the league’s member schools; Fischer and Ball-Malone are the only softball alumni as part of the group and are the first softball players included in the Hall of Honor, which began inducting members in 2009.
Fischer was a four-time all-conference selection during her time at LMU and the first All-American in school history in 2012. She led Division I players with a .492 batting average as a senior and was a two-time conference Player of the Year. She ended her career at LMU holding the following records in the program’s record book: home runs (65), RBI (172), total bases (495), batting average (.387), slugging percentage (.786), on-base percentage (.494), runs scored (184), doubles (52) and walks (127).
Ball-Malone was a two-way star at Pacific, successful in the circle and at the plate during her time as a Tiger. She was a two-time All-American and finished her own career as the program leader in wins, strikeouts, shutouts, innings pitched, and – on the offensive side – RBIs. She won the league’s Pitcher of the Year award in back-to-back seasons in 2001 and ’02 and set single-season records for wins, saves, strikeouts, and shutouts as a junior.
The group is slated to be inducted into the Hall of Honor on March 4th in Las Vegas.
