Former LSU pitcher Shelbi Sunseri will join the coaching staff at McNeese.

Sunseri announced the news on social media on Tuesday. “Big life update y’all! I HAVE A BIG GIRL JOB!” she wrote. “Excited to announce that I have taken the pitching coach job at McNeese State University.”

The 2022 season marked Sunseri’s “super senior” season as a player at LSU; a two-way star during her time in purple and gold, she posted an 8-7 overall record in the circle as a super senior, with a 3.23 ERA and 61 strikeouts in 102 innings of work. She also batted .267 during her final season, with 15 home runs and 41 RBIs.

During her full career in Baton Rouge, Sunseri won 39 games in the circle and collected 263 strikeouts in just shy of 415 innings of work. She notched a lifetime ERA of 2.41. Her hitting statistics as a Tiger included a career .285 batting average, 48 home runs, 37 doubles, and 159 RBIs.

Following her collegiate career, Sunseri has spent this summer playing for the Smash-It Sports Vipers in the upstart Women’s Professional Fastpitch league. At McNeese, she will replace former Arizona pitcher Alyssa Denham on the staff.
