The Sunflower Summer Collegiate Softball League will not field a summer season in 2023.
Earlier in March, the league made the announcement on social media. The organization was founded in 2022 and played their inaugural season last summer.
“Our registration numbers were very low for this summer with only 13 players signed up. Therefore, we have made the difficult decision to take this summer off and see what the next year brings. We hope to determine if there is a need, and/or a want for the SSL to continue during this hiatus,” the league’s statement said in part.
In 2022, the league fielded four teams with rosters between 10-13 players each. Each of the four teams played 21 games in a four-week period, with the league and all of the teams based out of Wichita, Kansas.
