First it was the Tampa Mustangs – Walford team which has five 2021 players committed to Florida State.
Then we learned of the Lady Dukes foursome of 2022’s committed to, not surprising, the Duke Blue Devils.
You can add another team which has the honor of producing four players from the same class—in this case it’s the Class of 2019—who will all be suiting up together in college.
Bill Baylog’s Team NC 16U program—made up of all juniors except for two sophomores— has 12 players committed.
The programs they’ll sign with include East Carolina, Western Carolina, UNC Wilmington, East Tennessee State, South Carolina-Upstate, UNC Charlotte and Presbyterian College (two team members), but what makes this interesting is four of the juniors have all committed to Coastal Carolina.
According to Baylog, the s pipeline to the Chanticleers (that’s a “proud and fierce rooster” derived from Geoffrey Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, for the uninitiated) first came with his own daughter, Gabby, a pitcher/middle infielder, was first noticed by Coastal Carolina at an on-campus clinic.
“The Chanticleers followed Gabby for the next few showcase events and offered her as she was wrapping up her freshman season,” recalls her father/head coach. “She made her commitment to Head Coach Kelley Green in June of 2016.”
Gabby gave props to the school’s baseball national championship run as helping to create a larger spark and she verballed the same night that Coastal Carolina’s baseball team defeated LSU and went on to win the College World Series.
