Team NC’s Talented Quartet of Pitchers Sees First One Committed

A team needs an ace to make it deep into any competitive tournament and having a back-up who is close in talent to the first one is a great luxury.

It’s rare to have three stud pitchers, but Nate Eaton’s Team NC 14U squad has the great advantage of having four talented pitchers who can go at any time and the first of the quartet came off the board this weekend when Tayven Stephenson, a 2023 right-hander verbally committed to play in the SEC.

Stephenson, a 2023 right-hander who hails from St. Albans, West Virginia, committed to the University of Kentucky on Saturday during an unofficial visit to the school’s campus.

She is the first to commit, but won’t be the last as Eaton feels he has three other standouts comparable in talent in 2022 lefties Olivia Cainey from Huntersville, North Carolina and Courtney Layne from Appomattox, Virginia and 2022 right-hander Katie Henri from Charlotte, North Carolina.

All four have not only solidified Eaton’s pitching staff, but he feels each has also helped boost his team’s offense.

“I can honestly believe that all four could start against any team in our age in the United States and I wouldn’t worry at all about their ability to get the job done on the mound,” says the head coach.
