Tennessee’s Karen Weekly Wins #1200: Five Fast Facts

Tennessee head coach Karen Weekly earned the 1,200th win of her career on Saturday in a victory over Texas A&M.

The win, a 7-5 victory on Rocky Top, also moved the Lady Vols to 28-12 overall on the 2022 season.

As the veteran coach celebrates her milestone achievement, here are Five Fast Facts about her and her career to this point.

1. She is in her 21st season leading the Tennessee program.

Weekly arrived at Tennessee ahead of the 2002 season and has guided the program ever since. She is in her first season as solo head coach, following husband former co-head coach Ralph Weekly’s retirement last summer.

2. The Lady Vols have reached seven Women’s College World Series’ under her guidance.

After reaching the championship tournament in Weekly’s fourth year on Rocky Top, the Lady Vols have totaled seven Women’s College World Series appearances during her tenure. The Lady Vols most recently appeared in the WCWS in 2015.

3. Her program is riding a 16-year streak of hosting Regionals.

The 2021 season marked Tennessee’s 16th consecutive year hosting a Regional in the NCAA tournament. The Lady Vols have reached the Super Regional round in 11 of those 16 opportunities.

4. Prior to Tennessee, she guided Chattanooga to five conference championships.

While at the helm of the Chattanooga program from 1997-2001, Weekly led the Mocs to five conference championships, two conference tournament titles, and a pair of NCAA regional appearances.

5. In addition to coaching, she is an attorney and is licensed in two states.

Prior to beginning her softball coaching career, Weekly was an associate attorney at law firms in Chattanooga and in Seattle, Washington. She maintains a membership in the American Bar Association and is licensed to practice in both Tennessee and Washington state.
